The curricular unit of data mining has as primary goal to allow students to gather skills in extracting information and knowledge from large databases.

In this course, the main methodological aspects of "Data Mining" and the most important tools are used, including artificial neural networks, classification trees, among others. The aim is also to provide students the opportunity to develop practical skills of problem-solving.

In this context the students will use the Enterprise Miner software from SAS to carry out a set of tasks modelling and extraction of knowledge.

Governance Frameworks and Standards and IT Service Management

The objective of the Curricular Unit (CU) is to prepare students for work and study by giving them the tools to apply for employment or internships in an English speaking environment. This CU should also help those who are studying CUs that are being taught in English. By the end of the unit students should be able to: write their curriculum vitae;  reply to job advertisements with an appropriate letter of intent; talk about their educational and work history; explain their professional objectives in an interview situation and write effectively in a variety of formats including proposals/reports/emails etc.

The CU is taught and assessed in English at CEFR level B2+.(See PDF file in Lesson One)

IT Service Management based on ITIL 2011 Edition

Pretende-­se com esta unidade curricular a compreensão do que é a Competitive Intelligence, a sua relação com a Estratégia e o Marketing, e o seu uso para uma maior eficiência global.

Os alunos deverão ser capazes de integrar ferramentas, técnicas e metodologias chave para compreenderem o comportamento de determinado Concorrente no mercado. Esta integração deverá proporcionar uma dedução de qual a actuação de determinado Concorrente baseado no Ambiente Competitivo que enfrenta ou, em sentido oposto de como a suas Comunicações de Marketing traduzem a sua Estratégia na prática. Será partilhado com os alunos uma perspectiva global de o Quê, Quando, Como e Porquê do uso destas ferramentas, de per se, ou integradas.

O objectivo final é a criação de condições para a criação de impacto positivo na tomada de decisão estratégica nas organizações a que pertencem, ou venham a pertencer.
